Snowdonia Activities

Just a few minutes from our Snowdonia B & B, camping and self-catering accommodation, you can go horse-riding on sandy beaches, mountain biking at Coed-y-Brenin, fishing, sailing or kayaking.   You can walk for hours in our quiet corner of Snowdonia National Park and see just mountains, sky and sheep.  Or you can take a steam train up Snowdon and join the crowds at the new visitor centre.  Wild swimming spots, RSPB reserves, gorge scrambling, wild food feasts, wildlife safaris, geocaching - Snowdonia National Park and North / Mid Wales offer all sorts of memorable experiences within easy reach of Graig Wen. Keep an eye on our events page and blog for information about activities taking place here on site.

Car sick? Leave the roads behind and explore on foot, bike, train or boat. Graig Wen is well placed for a car-free holiday.

Sarah and John can provide you with more information and guides about the local area. If you are interested in quirkier attractions such as exploring an abandoned Welsh slate mine or the rabbit village, just ask us…

Our top tips for days out:

  • Cycle the flat water-side Mawddach Trail to the George III pub, Fairbourne's blue flag beaches, shops and steam railway
  • Stroll over Barmouth's iconic bridge for fish and chips, ice cream and bargain-hunting. Catch Emily's ferry back to Fairbourne
  • Climb up Arthog waterfalls and on up to Cadair Idris mountain
  • Be inspired towards a greener way of life at the Centre for Alternative Technology or sail through underground caverns at King Arthur's Labyrinth – both at Corris
  • Visit Portmeirion – the Italianate fantasy village made famous in The Prisoner cult TV show
  • Explore the beautiful wilderness that is the Rhinogs - just a few ferral goats for company

Dolgellau (pronounced Dol-geth-lie) is an attractive market town 5 miles from Graig Wen. Here you'll find excellent independent shops, a monthly farmer's market (every 3rd Sunday) plus a range of both traditional and modern cafes, restaurants and pubs. There are two restuarants featured in the 2010 Good Food Guide within 10 minutes drive of Graig Wen.  Foodies can also buy direct from producers at the farm gates and should make a date with nearby Machynlleth's Wednesday market and stylish craft shops.
