Organising your wedding in Wild Wales while living in Toronto might phase some people. Congratulations then to Tom and Clare who have just celebrated their outdoor wedding here at Graig Wen with over a hundred guests from around the world.

Tom and Clare’s family live in the North Wales area so they have helped the happy couple with preparations while they are spending a couple of years working abroad.

A huge tipi full of twinkling lights was erected on the upper part of the camp site for a long weekend. First to arrive on Thursday was the Stag party. After catching some waves with a surfing lesson near Abersoch they sampled Dolgellau’s finest hostelries and spent the night camping here. Friends and family arrived on Friday to decorate tables and string bunting followed by supper at the local pub.

There was an impressive turn out on Saturday morning for the Dolgellau Park Run at 9am, including the bride and groom! The girls from Eden hair salon in Barmouth popped over to style the bride and her lovely ladies then it was off to Dolgellau for the ceremony.

Back at Graig Wen, guests enjoyed canapés and champagne overlooking the estuary followed by a three course meal seated at trestle tables in the tipi. The elderflower ale from Porthmadog’s Purple Moose brewery flowed freely and by the time the band finished at midnight I don’t think there were many left in their seats with some serious shapes being thrown on the dance floor.

As guests staying in our B and B and cottages strolled back to their beds or caught the coach to other accommodation, campers swapped their dancing shoes for wellies and the long walk back to their tents…

Sunday saw a Survivor’s brunch BBQ with Arthog sausages and burgers from Fairbourne butchers then a bike ride along the estuary.

It’s a privilege to become part of the family for these special celebrations and we have loved seeing it all come together. We choose to host one or two of these big celebrations a year and each one is different and fun. Over the years it’s always fab to welcome the happy couples back for anniversaries or when they introduce us to new members of their family!

It’s been a lovely weekend and we wish Clare and Tom every happiness in their lives together.
