Holiday in Snowdonia in festive season

Looking for Snowdonia accommodation to get away for Christmas or to see in the New Year?

Our Snowdonia Christmas glamping holiday offers a tranquil location to get away to celebrate Christmas or New Year’s Eve in stunning surroundings. You’ll find a warm welcome in our 5 Snowdonia self-catering Christmas cottages which are decorated with Christmas trees. If you’re looking for a festive holiday in Eryri/Snowdonia with Mawddach Trail accommodation, we are the ideal location.

As well as our holiday cottage Dolgellau, we have self-catering cottages, camping and glamping available on the Mawddach Estuary at Graig Wen. For Christmas and New Year’s Eve you can choose from our amazing Christmas getaways in Wales, from our cosy Shepherd’s Hut and our two quarry wagons.  The campsite is open for just a few vans with electric hook ups. Winter is a wonderful time to see why Eryri/Snowdonia is one of the few International Dark Skies Reserves – on a clear, crisp night you can sit and star-gaze from our communal camp fire in the woods. A magical experience you won’t forget, just one of the reasons it’s the perfect Christmas glamping break North Wales has to offer.

Our Dolgellau holiday cottage and holiday cottages on the Mawddach Estuary are available on flexible arrival dates as well as shorter stays and don’t forget your four-legged friend, as we offer dog friendly xmas breaks for all the family.

Cosy Pubs and Places to Eat

There are excellent independent shops as well as a couple of supermarkets in Dolgellau to stock up on supplies. You can pre-order good sausages, bacon, ham, eggs and turkey from the local butchers to save you transporting it all here.

Special Christmas and New Year’s Eve menus are served by restaurants including the award winning Tafarn y Gader in Dolgellau, the George III Hotel at Penmaenpool, The Royal Ship in Dolgellau. Pre-booking essential. You will also find other places to eat open for good food  either side of Christmas including the Penrhyn Bar and Grill at Fairbourne and in Dolgellau Y Sospan and The Torrent Pub. Again, it’s a good idea to book in advance.

Walk over the bridge for a mulled wine at Barmouth’s beautifully twinkly Last Inn and the festive baguettes at Y Sospan in Dolgellau are a local’s favourite!

Festive Events

Barmouth and Dolgellau host special events in the run up to Christmas including live music and mulled wine.

Steam trains such as Fairbourne Railway and Talyllyn Railway offer Santa Specials during December.  Zipworld’s Bounce Below hosts a Santa Adventure Grotto!  How about cycling along the Mawddach Estuary trail to the beach for a different sort of Christmas day? Read more about Snowdonia winter attractions on our blog.

On New Year’s Eve you can often watch fireworks light up the sky over the estuary, although we don’t let fireworks off here at Graig Wen.

The mountains can look wonderful with a sprinkling of snow on the tops in December, but being near sea level on the Mawddach Estuary and with well gritted access roads, getting here has never been a problem for the festive season. Barmouth Railway Bridge walkway is due to re-open  from the start of December.

If you can’t make it here for the festive season but would like to offer a loved one a special present, you can purchase Graig Wen gift vouchers and gift them with a wonderful stay at our Christmas cottages this winter.
