Donkey

Donkey

We opened the front door yesterday to find two donkeys and a pony standing there. They looked a bit confused. So were we. Although we welcome pets, its usually dogs (and their owners) who come to stay. Anyway, they trotted up to the touring camp site. We made a few calls and it turned out that the some workmen had left a gate open and the beasts had escaped from a field half a mile away. Fortunately the animals had made it along the main road to us without hurting themselves or anyone else. It was getting dark by now so the donkeys and little Welsh Mountain pony stayed overnight and I helped lead them safely home this morning. The donkeys had never been on a road before so they were pretty feisty. Lessons to be learnt: shut gates; drive past animals wide and very slow; you’ve got no chance against a donkey on a mission.
