This characterful self catering holiday cottage in Wales is in the heart of Dolgellau, in Snowdonia National Park, North Wales. Unlike the rest of Graig Wen’s holiday accommodation, Isfryn Cottage is in a village, close to the many places to eat, drink and shop in historic Dolgellau.

The little stone cottage sleeps 3 in 2 bedrooms. It has been stylishly refurbished with a sparkling new bathroom and kitchen. Located in a peaceful and unspoilt area of Snowdonia National Park, making this Snowdonia holiday cottage a comfortable and well equipped village base for couples, friends or a small family.
Location

Dolgellau (pronounced a little like “Dol-geth-lie”) is a traditional Welsh market town. Our holiday cottage Dolgellau is just off the main square in a quiet courtyard. You are just a few steps away from cafes, excellent restaurants and welcoming pubs. The best thing? This is all on the doorstep of this holiday cottage Dolgellau!

There are many walks from your door into the spectacular mountain landscape of Cader Idris or the scenic Mawddach Estuary Trail. The beaches of Fairbourne and Barmouth are a short drive away.

As well as walks into the countryside from the door, there is an attractive riverside park nearby and cosy pubs, restaurants and cafes with outdoor seating where you can sit outside and enjoy the great Welsh weather! Read more about a Dolgellau holiday here.

Isfryn (pronounced “Is-vrin”) Dolgellau holiday cottage is managed by John and Sarah from Graig Wen. John refurbished the former home of his Dad Peter, who was an art and craft teacher. You’ll see some of the attractive ceramics Peter made on the colourful Welsh dresser and around the house and other family artworks.
Inside

The Victorian Dolgellau holiday cottage is cosy and compact with colourful vintage touches, period features and a new kitchen and bathroom. Walk in through a small room with a dining table and chairs. Make yourself at home in a comfortable arm chair and plan your days out with the local maps provided. There is central heating for instant warmth in every room. To the right is a snug lounge with a sofa and easy chair. If you’re not popping into town to eat out, the large digital TV means you can relax after a day exploring and log into your Netflix or the i-Player. There’s good WiFi too if you need to stay connected.

The modern kitchen is well equipped with a dishwasher, fridge, full sized oven with electric hob, washing machine and tumble dryer. There’s also a microwave, a cafetière and food mixer. Whether you’re preparing a lazy breakfast, picnic lunch or special meal you’ll find all the cooking utensils you need. The bathroom is on the ground floor with a bath and overhead rain shower.

A steep and narrow flight of stairs leads to 2 bedrooms. The double bedroom has a bay window looking across the slate rooftops of Dolgellau to the surrounding hills. The double bed has a deep mattress and crisp cotton bed linen. There are upcycled bedside tables and lights on each side of the bed. The second bedroom has one single bed and plenty of storage space. The large window looks across Listed stone buildings opposite and fills the room with plenty of light, making this the perfect self catering Dolgellau option!
Outside

There’s space for small bistro table and chairs outside near the front door to enjoy watching the world go by, but no private outdoor space.  Well behaved dogs are welcome if responsible owners are happy to walk their dog a few hundred metres through quiet and safe streets to the woods.

Who is Isfryn Dolgellau Holiday Cottage suitable for?

Couples, friends or families with one child who wish to be in the heart of Dolgellau. Guests with children should note there is a door but no stair gate between the bedrooms and the steep stairs. People with mobility issues may find these stairs between the bedrooms and downstairs bathroom challenging. There are 11 steps and the stairs have a bit of a twist at the bottom. There is a hand rail. For this reason we do not recommend the cottage for families with toddlers or those who find stairs a challenge. A travel cot and high chair can be pre-booked on request.

Parking and car-free holidays
There is a narrow parking space by the cottage, suitable for one small vehicle. Most people manage to park there but some may find it easier to drop your luggage at the cottage and then park further up the road where there are usually spaces for free on street parking.

For car-free holidays the nearest train station is 9 miles away at Morfa Mawddach from where you can pre-order a cab or time it right for the occasional bus to Dolgellau.

We had a great stay in this lovely house full of character. The information in advance was very helpful and the house was well equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay. The location is great and provides a very good base to explore the area. We love this part of Wales and would definitely stay here again.

Fantastic cosy cottage right in the centre of Dolgellau but also quiet and peaceful. Good central heating and modern commodities so you can spend days relaxing at the cottage, but it’s also a great base for exploring Snowdonia. Lots of shops/restaurants nearby and the locals are very friendly. Would love to stay here again.

Mel

I’ve travelled to many parts of wales and this has to be my favourite part, nestled in a small town with all the amenities one would want, though you still feel like you’ve escaped the world! Just in your door step you have every a walker would want from breathtaking mountain views to beautiful coasts!

Josh

Lovely cottage, super beds, kitchen and bathroom. Walking distance to village shops and large supermarket. Wonderful furnishings. Spectacular hiking on Cader Idris from the door.

Elies

You will love it, it’s stylish inside, cosy and got everything you need. Easy walk into the village and lots of info about where to eat and shop which is really useful. Thanks for a lovely stay – we would definitely stay again.
